Four Day Weekend: Recap

Who doesn't love a four day weekend?  This past weekend I did a solo road trip upstate (New York).  On Saturday I had an engagement party for one of my sorority sisters (and old college housemate/bestie), so I decided to make a long weekend of it since Richie also lived upstate.

A quick how-to for "tucking" a shirt or sweater into a jumpsuit.

Either a belt or drawstring:  Tuck part of the bottom of the shirt into the belt/bow of the drawstring. If you're tucking into a drawstring, tie it once, tuck the shirt in, then tighten the drawstring before you tie the bow.

Easy-peasey!  Just adjust the shirt a bit so that it falls right, and then, voila, you're ready to go!

On Saturday, Richie and I dressed in our best and went to the engagement party!

This scallop dress from J. Crew scallop dress (on sale right meow!!!  And it's under $50!) is the perfect dress for an engagement party (or really any occasion)!

I'm convinced that navy blue is pretty much perfect for any occasion.  It's simple and sophisticated.  It can be casual or fancy-schmancy.  By now if you couldn't tell, I'm #teamnavy all the way.

The pearls say classy girl, and the leopard wedges say "let's have some fun!".  Both are super easy to pack and travel with and really add some extra oomph to a solid outfit.

Brittany and I have been friends for quite a while now.  We're basically the same person.  Back in college we spent our Friday afternoons, after classes (and sometimes Friday nights too), munching on junk food and having Bride Day marathons (so we're basically wedding planners now).

I can't wait for all of the wedding celebrations to begin!

I think we clean up quite nicely!  ;)

Sunday was a lazy day, spent relaxing and watching movies snuggled under covers while it poured outside.

Monday was adventure time and I was super excited to go explore Howe Caverns!  Upstate NY is a great place to go on an adventure if you love the outdoors.

I'm still not sure as to why this dress was displayed before the tour, but it was so darling that I had to snap a quick shot of it anyways!

...that's right!  There's a room down in the caverns where cheese is stored an aged.  Our guide told us that because of the constant temperatures down in the caverns (a cool fifty-two degrees all year 'round), it's the perfect place to age cheese!

This stalactite (...or stalagmite?  I can't remember!), is called the Chinese Pagoda.  It was huge (I think it was around nine feet)!

Being down in the caverns (the equivalent of fifteen stories underground), was so amazing!  The whole time we were down there I kept telling Richie that it was so unreal that it felt like I was on the set of the movie because this couldn't possible that this was all naturally occurring!

It's said that if you're of marrying age, and you step on the stone, it's supposed to be good luck, and that you'll be engaged within the year!

Our guide told us that people even get married down there!

#cavernselfies, kinda hard to achieve, but darn it I was going to make it happen!  I think Richie was relieved that it was a little too hard to get a good selfie down there, lol (he's not much of a picture taker).

These dyed geodes from the souvenir shop were so pretty!  I didn't buy any because I have no idea what the heck I'd do with them, but they were definitely so cool to look at that I seriously debated buying a set (damn my tourist-like nature!).

This four day weekend of fun and relaxation was just what I needed! :)

The Mini Bag

...packs a big punch in only a fraction of the size!  I just recently found one in Target, in the bag clearance section, and guys, it's love.  I hadn't even gone in looking for a bag (isn't that always the story with Target?), but I spotted it (not too hard to miss bright red-orange) and was immediately drawn (I'm also convinced I can spot a sales tag from like a mile away...lol).

And don't be thrown by the size of this pint-sized bag.  You can fit all your essentials, and then some, inside (like your friends' keys when you go out...I'm the designated holder of anything that doesn't fit in my friend's clutches when we go out, lol).

As you can see, this pint-sized bag goes with everything and can go anywhere.  I love it for running errands, hitting the mall (my bigger bag gets in the way sometimes, especially when I'm on a shopping spree), going out; it's a go-anywhere kind of a bag (it also packs great in a suitcase!)!

This bag is all you need for summer.  And it's on sale, right meow (shop it below)!
Who's ready for the mini bag?!  :)

Old Navy Round Up

I'm rounding up all my recent Old Navy finds that are on sale, right meow (and yes, I did mean to say "meow" instead of "now" lol)!  Old Navy has really stepped up their fashion game in the last couple of years, which is great news because they're also quite affordable.  So now, I'm pretty sure I shop at Old Navy at least once a week, or every two weeks.  As I type this my outfit is actually head to toe Old Navy...sorry not sorry!  :P

Their soft pants.  They're exactly that, soft and super comfortable. I wear them out, I wear them to work or just to hang out and run errands.

You can pretty much wear anything with this jumpsuit.  I like to dress it up for work with a cool blazer, or just wear it as is for casual days.  It's absolutely darling and I wish they made them in other colors (and maybe some with a sleeve), because I'd have them all.

The print, the laces, these sandals are so cool!  I love the style of the sandals because they're pretty unique. And the laces add a little something extra to it all.

Joggers and tunics. Both are my go-to when I don't want to think about what I'm going to wear to work. They look great together, but also look awesome with other pieces as well.

I've fallen in love with boyfriend jeans. I love everything about them. But now that it's summer, it's just getting too hot to wear them so often. A few weeks ago I found boyfriend shorts at Old Navy and I had to get them!  As you can see, I'm obsessed now. They've definitely become a summer staple; they're cool and comfy and I love pairing them with a button up or a fun graphic tee!

Like my jumpsuit, I like to dress this maxi up and down.  Sometimes I'll throw a shirt over it to look like a skirt.

And the classic blazer?  I couldn't even begin to tell you guys how many times I've worn this blazer. It's got some stretch to it, so it's comfortable, almost like wearing a sweatshirt to work!

The white eyelet dress.  I first discovered it through one of my favorite bloggers, Carly over at The College Prepster (seriously, check out her awesome blog and her Instagram) and ordered it seconds later! It fits almost any event. I've worn it to Easter, work, and a college graduation party already.

WIWW Link Up: Swan Princess

Last weekend I finally had enough money to do a little shopping after paying all my bills (#brokegirlproblems).  And it must have been fate because everywhere was having sales!!  I didn't pay full price for anything and left the mall with some pretty full bags without spending my last dollar (does anyone else count this as an accomplishment?).

One of my finds was in Aeropostale (where I haven't been in probably ten years!). I was super surprised to find quite a few things I liked!  One of the shirts I purchased was a swan print crop tee that was on sale for $4.  That's right, four bucks guys!

Did you guys have any super sale finds this week?  :)

Summertime with eShakti

A while back I had collaborated with eShakti for a review of their umbrella dress (featured here), and I love it!  What's so special about eShakti?  Their clothes are customizable!  Sleeves, hems, pockets; they provide great options for you to customize your piece to your tastes and comfort.  Not something you can do with any company when you order online (unless you want to bring them to a seamstress, but who wants to add something like that to their to-do list?).

This time they've asked me to look through their summer look book, review it, and share it with all you lovely readers!  :)

Summer Is Here

When I think of summer I think of: bright whites, ocean and sky blues, and fun pattern play!
Flamingos?  Yes please!  These patterns are seriously so much fun for the summer!  Bright pink screams summer fun, and it's a print I've been dying to try out!  The retro style of the white dress is something you don't see a lot, so I'm definitely a fan.  And the aqua dress has amazing bow details up by the collar that I love.

Gingham, in blue.  And in a retro shape.  I'm secretly in love with 50s housewife fashion (anyone else dying to channel their inner Betty Draper?), so I'm loving these dresses for summer!  For some reason, when I see blue gingham I think picnics and BBQs (AKA the best things about summer!)...anyone else?

I love chambray anytime, which makes it perfect for summer, because then you can transition these pieces to any other season.  Yay for versatility!

Scallops are reminiscent of ocean waves, as does chambray.  Denim is super durable, which is great for summertime adventures!  And jumpsuits?  My new favorite for spur of the moment romps; throw it on and go!
White and blue dresses?  I'm drooling over here.  Embroidered bib detail, bows on sleeves, laser cuts and anchors?  I want, no need, them all!  Bright whites and blues look uh-mazing with that summer glow from days out in the sun!

Pattern bottoms are a must.  How fun are these cactus print pants?  I've never even seen a cactus print before, and I have to have it!

And pompoms?  I'll take a pair of those too!  What I really love about these shorts are that they're not super short.  I'm tall (well, kind of...I'm 5'7") and have thick thighs, so the super cute pompom shorts, I can't really wear, they tend to be uncomfortable.  These ones have a longer inseam, and I'm totally digging them!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that eShakti comes out with more fun prints and some more bright colors!

The site is easy-peasy to navigate and they have great sales going on right now, so bows the time to pick up all your summer pieces!  At first it may seem expensive, but when you factor in the customization (plus, the quality is surprisingly awesome!), it's actually more of an investment piece if anything!

They've all been so kind to let me share a special deal with you lovely readers; a $35 gift card towards your purchase!

WIWW Link Up: Joggers, Leather + Stripes

Don't you love it when you find things in your closet that you forgot about?  And then you find a new way to wear it so you can put it to use again?

To save space in my closet, I hang up a couple of spaghetti strap shirts and tanks on one hanger.  So the other day when I was going through my closet to plan my outfits for the week, I re-discovered a faux-leather peplum tank I had gotten a while back.  I used to wear it to go out with friends on the weekends, but it's been a while since we've done that, so I had forgotten completely about the shirt.  Plus, I thought, is leather really appropriate for work?  But when I spotted my striped blazer (an awesome hand-me-down from my mom), I was like, "this could totally work"!  Needlessly to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I paired them both with my joggers and some bright D'Orsay flats.

The joggers tone down  the leather and makes it much more casual for the daytime, while the blazer makes the outfit office appropriate. Plus, the bright flats add a great pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit.

And of course, you can't go wrong with the Ariana Grande half-up, half-down pony!

What do your guys think about daytime leather for work?  :)

Don't forget to join the fun and link up!
