Equestrian Street Style

My style is always flip-flopping between preppy and street style, edgy and classic, sporty and simple; because of this, I tend to mix a lot of styles together to create a unique look (grungy prep anyone? lol).

Just recently I got a Poshmark package in the mail: a Zara blazer, complete with elbow patches (I LOVE me some elbow patches).  If you didn't know already, I'm a sucker for a good blazer (I probably have almost ten now in my closet as we speak), and when I scrolled through the Poshmark app and saw this tweed beauty, I knew I just had to have it!

I love the old, English feel of it; that is to say, it reminds me of someone going out to a hunt or horse riding (my inner prep is loving it).

Today I wasn't feeling totally old English aristocrat (even though I have an awesome pair of riding-inspired jeggings), so I paired my blazer with a simple black sweater (even though it's May, it's still cold and rainy... so typical English-like weather lol), and my favorite boyfriend jeans.  It's a pretty simple outfit, but it's also a great combination of differing styles.

The blazer is a chic and sophisticated addition to jeans and a sweater, bringing this rainy day outfit to the next level (any excuse for me to throw on a blazer is good enough for me!).  And these lace up boots (also a Poshmark find!), add a little subtle edginess, giving my outfit a street style meets English equestrian look.

I love it!

Poshmark is great for finding your favorite brands for cheap; as well as making some extra money on the side, selling all the clothes that take up space in your closet.

Need some cute pieces to update your wardrobe, but your wallet isn't up to a major spending spree?  Poshmark is awesome because you can score pieces for 50-75% off retail price!  My Lucky boots?  I got them for only $30!!  Such an easy way to treat yo self on the cheap and add some great pieces to your wardrobe without going into debt.

And if you have a closet full of clothes you don't wear (I think we're all guilty of holding onto pieces we probably won't ever wear), Poshmark is an easy way to get rid of the excess, while making a little extra money for guilt-free shopping or putting into your savings (you can get a check sent to you or have it direct deposited!).  It's super easy, and it's all done through the app, so you can run your closet on the go!

Spring Trench + Stripes

J. Crew is on point with their spring jackets; and I'm completely on board (I also love this field jacket that I featured on the blog yesterday)!

As I get older, I'm starting to realize the phrase "quality over quantity" is truer and truer (you were right after all, mom).  While I still love buying fun trendy pieces, I've come to realize that I need to be smarter in spending my money, and that the bulk of my money spent on my wardrobe should be dedicated to well-fitting, quality pieces that are classic and can be worn for many, many more years.

Enter, this beauty, the J. Crew Factory trench jacket.

Even though April just ended, the weather has been very unpredictable with many cooler and rainier days.  That being said, jackets are still a must even though summer is right around the corner.  I love this timelessness of the trench, and that I can throw it over any outfit (good or lazy...) and still look put together!

Sneakers: Puma || Crossbody: Banana Republic || Sunnies: aerie ||

The trench is a classic wardrobe staple, that looks awesome thrown over a fun sailor stripe tee and jeans for a chic casual look.  It was perfect for a day of shopping and lunch with my mom!

Speaking of classic investment pieces, how gorge is this Banana Republic cross body (also comes in a nude color) I scored at their sale yesterday (40% off!)?  Every girl needs at least one good leather bag in her style arsenal for a quick polished look.

Field Jackets + BF Jeans

It's no secret that I love my boyfriend jeans; dressing them up or down (or in between, with a little street style action!), to fit whatever style mood I'm in (like when I'm feeling preppy AND a little 90s grunge), I basically live in my BF jeans a majority of the time.  But sometimes you need to add a little something extra to fit the season and shake things up a bit.

Enter my new J. Crew field jacket (it comes in three colors and their having a sale!!).

I seriously am in love guys.  It's a classic piece, nice and light weight for spring, but can easily be layered over a sweater and scarf in the colder seasons!  It's a win-win!

And just like my boyfriend jeans, this jacket is super versatile!  It's a classic shape, and olive is a great neutral.  It's great to just throw on and go (my preferred plan of styling), and looks great with a simple white tee and jeans (probably my favorite outfit combo).

Taking It Easy + Style Inspo: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Stuck on what to wear for the day (or night)?  My first go to is usual Pinterest (I also have a running list in my phone of outfit ideas that pop into my head!).  I go to one of my fashion boards (I got a few...lol || street style, celeb style, general fashion inspo, for your fancy-shmancy events), and scroll through quick to help me out in the morning.

As I've mentioned before, one of my favorite ways to find an outfit for the day, is to look towards stylish stars for a little inspiration.  It's a nice little accomplishment when you can recreate a celeb's look for a fraction of the cost!

I've recreated a few of my favorite celebs so far: Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Kourtney (here's a second one, cuz she's my favorite Kardashian lol) and Kim Kardashian; it's always a fun challenge!

And today I've channeled the beautiful Rosie Huntington-Whiteley!

pic from WhoWhatWear
I love Rosie's look for a lot of reasons:

1. It's super easy for anyone to recreate because it's completely made up of wardrobe basics: ripped jeans, a comfy striped tee, and a good spring jacket (as well as some cute accessories that can be styled with a ton of different outfits!).

2. It's casual and comfy, but not sloppy.

3.  I love ripped jeans and striped tees; and together, I'd wear them every day if I could!

Easy Peasy, 1,2,3!

Sometimes getting an outfit together in the morning is a big ol' pain; blank stares into your closet, wondering what the heck you're going to wear today.

I have a super simple solution.  Break it down; just like your would one of those unnecessarily long math word problems.  When you dissect an outfit piece by piece, I've found it's much easier to pull something together than when you're just thinking of the whole outfit.

Pick one piece that you love, and then go from there.  Today I chose a fun, vintage inspired jacket.

Step 1: Start with your basics.  When I'm styling a fun, detailed jacket, the rest of my outfit is composed of basic pieces so that the jacket is the crown jewel of my look.  Today I'm wearing this nice, light aerie button up top (perfect for the warmer weather, or in this case, layering), paired with a pair of classic black American Eagle jeggings (perfect for any clean, classic look!).

A statement piece is only as good as it's basic base.  At least to me anyways.  If you feel good in your base pieces (the fit, comfort, etc), then you'll have the confidence to rock the hell out of your statement, no matter how bold it is!  When you feel good, you'll look good (never underestimate the power of confidence!).

Plus, a good basic outfit can be style in a hundred different ways, depending on what other pieces you decide to add on; it's basically your blank canvas, to dress up any way you want!

Step 2: Add one or two fun elements...but don't get too crazy!  Again, you want the jacket to be the star of the show.  I added this recent purchase, a J. Crew suede clutch (goes with everything!), and a pop of color in the form of a vintage silk scarf (this one is great too!).

Step 3: Add that statement piece!!

...in this case an awesome jacket!

I found this awesome vintage inspired military jacket (similar here!) on Poshmark (use code PNXBH when you sign up to get a $10 credit!).

Not So Basic Tees + WIWW

Who doesn't love a good jeans and tee combo?  It's basically the cool girl uniform (just add leather jacket, lol); but, some days you just need a little extra oomf to your usual go-to...but not too much, just a nice, happy medium.  Essentially, the not-so-basic tee is your ticket to being dressed up, without having to get dressed up.

So what's a gal to do?

Personally, I've become a huge fan of pairing my jeans with simple tees that have a little something extra, enough to make my outfit interesting, but without the overkill.  A simple tee and jean combo can become so much more when your tee has some added detail: some ruffle at the hem (like my current fave from American Eagle; it comes in a few different colors, I got the cream and dark charcoal ones!), or maybe some monochromatic embroidery, even a little bit of embellishment around the collar!  On of my favorite details?  Stripes!  I cannot get enough!!

And sometimes just adding a cute accessory or an edgy leather jacket can make all the difference of turning your favorite plain white (or any color, like this grey one!) tee from 'ehhh' to 'OMG'!!

GET THE DETALS HERE

Some of my favorite places to score a great tee are American Eagle, Forever21 or J. Crew.

If I could splurge on a statement tee, it would definitely be this white tee with a giant black flower detail from Rosie Assoulin!  Sadly, I don't have $855 to drop on a shirt (*cue the tears* hahaha).

Next time you're in the market for a new tee to go with your favorite jeans, forgo the plain white tee, look for a little something more: a peplum waist, some nautical stripes, or a little bling around the collar!

How do you rock your not-so-basic tee?  :)

Preppy Grunge and a Little Bit of Sunshine

I love putting my own spin on things; especially when it comes to classic fashion styles.  Today I put a bit of grunge into an otherwise preppy look, and I loved the results!

This was such a fun look for me because not only was it ridiculously comfortable (something I always strive for in all my outfits), but it was the epitome of my personal style: a mix of a few different styles. I don't typically stick to one single look; I like to mix it up. Some days I'm boho, some I'm street style... it's always so different from day to day; it all depends of my mood!

To me, a flannel reminds me of Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club; it's the epitome and base of grunge style, and seeing as I've accumulated a ton of flannel this winter (I have no idea how it happened...hahaha), it's super easy to just throw one on over virtually anything else in my closet for a little edgy, grunge action.

The wind was sooooo bad, and anyone who saw me was probably LOL'ing as I repeatedly lunged at my tripod to keep it and my phone from nosediving into the sand, or worse...the ocean  #bloggerprobs!
