Insta Roundup: May Favorites

I'm rounding up and linking up all of my May favorites!

I'd like to just say that this month, yay for fashion risks!  I tried quite a few things that I wouldn't have normally worn and ended up loving them. And they all turned out to be my fashion favorites for the month of May!

Denim Jumpsuit
I love this jumpsuit become I feel like it makes me look so much taller and leaner!

Palm Frond Midi
This skirt is without a doubt the best Forever21 find I've ever had. Period. I love the print of this skirt!

Blazer + Jumpsuit
If you follow along on my Instagram, you know how much I already love this jumpsuit. I really loved pairing it with this blazer, soooooo you might see this look again with a different blazer...sorry not sorry! :P

Double Denim
I was so nervous to try this look because I thought it wouldn't look flattering on my body...but it was actually one of my fave outfits this month!
What were your May favorites?  :)

Double Denim

I can't say enough how much I love my Old Navy jumpsuit (check out how I've styled it so far: here and here)!  But, if a jumpsuit isn't for you, but you're digging the all denim look, then why not try a denim shirt tucked into some jeans (maybe add a cute belt?)?  It's basically the same effect, but in two pieces that you can mix and match with other pieces throughout your wardrobe (yay versatility!).

I was a little hesitant to try the all denim look; I just didn't think it would look flattering on me.  But now I love this outfit!  And I think this look could work for any body size because you can mix and match so many different denim pieces to create this look (the possibilities are endless, really).

I added a little sparkle to give this all denim look a little something extra.  Adding gold accessories makes me feel a little more fancy, which is great for days where you feel blah or your outfit just needs that special something.  Gold is the way to go.

...because it's extremely rare that I take off my Fossil watch.

I can't even tell you how many times I've worn these leopard loafers I found at Target last year.  But I loved them so much that a week or two later I bought the same pair in black (and if I'm not wearing the leopard pair I'm most likely wearing the black ones!).

WIWW: Jumpsuit Chic

I'm pretty sure my Old Navy chambray jumpsuit is going to be on repeat all summer (this is the second time I've worn it this week....sorry not sorry lol).  It's nice and light (but not thin enough that it's see through, because that's one of my fashion pet peeves!), so you can totally layer it up if it's a little chilly, or wear it by itself if it's warmer out; A+ for versatility!

The blazer definitely gives this jumpsuit a chic, more polished look; kind of meshes old me with new me (a.k.a. "tomboy chic").  And sleek pony tail, gives this outfit a sporty look, without being too sloppy.

When I got the jumpsuit I also picked up this bar/fringe necklace on my way to pay. Does anyone else get distracted by the cute accessories that they have right next to the check out lines?  I know they definitely do it on purpose...and I fall for it every since time!

And how adorable is this initials necklace from Bip & Bop?!  Richie got it for my birthday and I wear it every day.  I love how delicate and just down right sweet it is; plus because it's so dainty I can layer it with all of my other necklaces (since I never take it off).

This is my everyday arm stack.  This 'Cecil' Fossil watch (c/o Fossil) and Kate Spade glasses bangle is everything.  I'm pretty much a gold girl so I wear these two with 98% of my outfits.

Weekend Blues

This weekend was filled with lots of laughter...and food; a.k.a. the perfect way to get better quicker (because I'm still sick)!

Saturday was adventure time; my parents and I went out to Brooklyn to check out a local flea market.  And let's just say that it didn't turn out as we thought.  When I think flea market I think crazy amazing vintage treasures and farmer's market type of a place. What we walked into was a modge podge of...well, junk.  But getting out of the house, going for a scenic drive and hanging out with my parents was still a blast!

I love this combo of: graphic tee+boyfriend tees+comfy cardi+metallic shoes=casual cool.  I was sooooo comfortable in this outfit, I might as well have been in my PJs!  It was so beautiful and sunny out, but there was a bit of a breeze, so jeans and a cardi was the perfect way to go.

This pineapple print backpack was something I bought last summer for a trip Richie and I took with friends down to Maryland.  I love this backpack; it cute and functional (and it fits so much stuff in it!).

On our way back we took the long way home and drove along the water and then stopped for a late lunch at a cute little clam shack right on a marina dock.

I used to hate seafood; I wanted nothing to do with it, and couldn't even stand the smell of it.  But since last summer I've slowly started to enjoy eating it!  Especially baked clams (my fave seafood) and crab cakes...probably because they're covered in breadcrumbs and cheese.  Plus those onion rings?  Super tasty!

Any meal by the water makes the meal one hundred times better (especially when it's a beautiful day out, like it was on Saturday).  It the epitome of relaxation. One day I hope to live on the water (fingers crossed!).

Anchor rings and pearl bracelets are perfect for a seafood lunch.  This was actually a happy fashion coincidence (even though my dad asked me if I did this on purpose, despite the fact that we didn't even know we were going to this restaurant until like ten minutes before we sat down to eat, lol).

Sunday was BBQ day!  I decided to keep it comfy and casual since it was low-key.
The weather lately has been so up in the air lately; sometimes its a little chilly, sometimes it's a little too warm.  A cute, light cardigan over this jumpsuit is the perfect solution.  It goes along with my sandals without being too match-matchy.

I could seriously sleep in this jumpsuit--it's that comfortable!  My favorite pieces to buy, are the ones that I can just throw on and go, but doesn't actually look like I  threw everything together.  Basically, I try to put together all my outfits around comfort, without having to give up looking fashionable.

I'm obsessed with my heart sunnies that I found at a local vintage store.  They're so much fun and I love the white frames for summer (which will look great once I finally achieve my tan!)!

Tassels?  Yes please!  I'm obsessed.  They're definitely going to be an accessory that I'll be gravitating towards this summer. Tassels are super fun, and pack a punch when they dress up a plain outfit.

My sister takes pretty much all of my pictures for my blog and Insta now, and for a while we've been trying to figure out the whole "jumping for joy" pose.  I think we're both finally starting to get the hang of these photo shoots; definitely much, much better than when we first started doing photos!  :)

And these Old Navy sandals, just like the jumpsuit is also super comfortable!  They're totally a cool summer shoe.  And I love the way my pedicure (Essie "Lapiz of Luxury")!

I hope y'all had awesome weekends full of yummy food and lots of laugh!  :)

WIWW: Jumping for Joy

...for my new metallic oxfords from J. Crew Factory!  As soon as I spotted them amongst the other goodies in the clearance section (which is my fave part of any store!), I knew I needed these in my life. ASAP. I think the best finds are the ones that are totally unexpected; it's like finding buried treasure!

I love the idea of a black and white outfit (or all black or all white) and then BAM!  A pop of color ( or in this case, metallic).  It really helps show off a really cool aspect of the outfit.

This whole outfit was found in the clearance section. Old Navy always has great sales, so especially when I find a pair of pixie pants on the sales rack, I pick up a pair or two (they're ridiculously comfortable and you can wear them to work!).  This sheer top was found in the Kohl's sales racks a while back for only $10!  And of course course the metallic J. Crew oxfords that were originally $118, and this weekend I snagged them for $20!  The fact that this whole outfit was under $50 makes me feel oddly accomplished (lol).  Does anyone else feel that way when they snag a really good deal?

Even though this picture is blurry, I still kinda love it!  It's almost like one of those awkward model poses (think flamingo!)...plus, I will not apologize for my ponytail looking so fierce in all this, lol.

I plan on rocking these bad boys all summer long!

Pink & Palms with a Touch of (Rose) Gold

I'm really starting to dig the mixing of patterns!  So far I've been dipping my toes in, either pairing similar patterns with similar colors or one bold pattern with one subtle pattern.  Regardless, my fashion risk-taking has come a very long way from when I first took an interest in fashion (which honestly wasn't until the end of high school).

My inspiration came from Blaire Eadie (Atlantic Pacific blog, here; don't forget to check out her Insta feed, here!), who has an AMAZING fashion sense.  Seriously, I don't think she's posted an outfit I didn't like!  If there was a way to do it, I'd copy and paste her wardrobe into my own (who do I need to talk to to get this technology happening???).

I really liked playing with patterns and then adding a pop of metallic.  This summer is going to be full of experimenting with mixing patterns, and I can't wait!!

Kisses

First of all, can I just say that I seemed to have forgotten how to twirl today!  My driveway doesn't seem to be twirly skirt friendly (I guess I'm going to have to find somewhere else to twirl) because my shoes kept getting stuck.

Anywhooooo, I love midi skirts.  They're comfy and flattering (they hide whatever you're not trying to show off), and best of all, you can dress them up or down; just like a good pair of jeans!  Personally my favorite way to style a midi is with a cool graphic tee (extra points if it has sequins, like the one I wore today!).

(This is where my shoe got stuck on the driveway lol)

A long sleek pony is also on my midi styling list!  A nice sleek 'do always polishes up any look, in my opinion.

Don't you guys just love a good twirly skirt?  :)

P.S. I apologize for the short posts lately, but I have mono (insert sad face here) and I'm pretty much in bed whenever I'm not at work.  I promise to step up my game when I start feeling better, so bear with me! :*

Night to Day Skirt

I'm taking my black pencil skirt, that I usually wear out for drinks, and making it day casual.  Lately I've been trying to be frugal with my spending (which is super hard for me; my parents always say that money burns a whole in my pocket...oops lol), so my goal is to get a little more creative with my existing wardrobe and make some of my pieces more versatile.

How funny is this outtake?!  Pure blogger girl swag (aka, didn't realize pics were still being taken and started walking off) right here, lol.

Eyelet + Denim

I'm a huge fan of the girly-meets-edgy kind of look; I feel like it adds an element of cool girl chic (that's a thing, right?) to an outfit.

This eyelet dress (styled here, for Easter) looks expensive, but it's actually from Old Navy!  I first saw the dress on the The College Prepster a few months ago and fell in love with it.  Never have I owned a white dress, or really any piece of clothing, that was all white.  I kind of don't trust myself, given how klutzy I can be.  But I really loved this dress and wanted to expand my personal style.  And I'm really glad I did because this dress is going to be on repeat all spring and summer.

Florals + Stripes

I'm kicking off the week by finally doing the floral and stripe combo, and can I just say, I'm hooked!  I've seen a few of my favorite bloggers, like Courtney over at Color Me Courtney (you definitely need to check her out!), have rocked this combo and I wanted to give it a try.  I'm still a little hesitant when it comes to mixing patterns, but something about stripes and florals together just makes me happy!  :)

Can you believe this Green Sakura Print Midi is only $16.90?!

What's even better is how comfortable this outfit is! The shirt is thrifted, and is a staple I wear all the time (especially on lazy days with a pair of jeans, because it's nice and worn in because of how many times I've worn it).  And you don't get more comfortable and chic at the same time as a good pair of Sperry boat shoes.

My style is definitely mixing old, new and thrifted.  And as a blogger on a budget, I have to say, when you find a piece that's just so exciting that you can't wait to wear it (like my heart-shaped sunnies I found at a local vintage shop), is really what makes blogging fun for me!  :)

It's no secret I love a good blazer (check out this outfit post from last week).  My sister found this Kate Spade Saturday blazer at a thrift store (brand new with tags!) for only $20 and picked it up for me (you seriously can't beat it when you're sister knows your style so well like that)!

I'm already obsessed with this blazer, because with it's asymmetrical lapels (there's only one true lapel), it's pretty unique (and the green is just awesome).

This outfit is so stinkin' easy to put together, but it looks like I put a lot more thought into it; those are my favorite kinds of outfits, because it usually means you're super comfortable.

Casual Camo

Sometimes you don't feel like dressing up; sometimes you just want to do jeans and a tee but then you remember you have to go to work.  To solve that problem, I like to wear a crisp white top, that has some sort of simple detail, and then maybe some comfy pants with a print. This makes me feel like I'm more dressed up then I am, but I still look good for work (or going out)!

Blazers and Boyfriend Jeans

One thing piece of clothing I can't live without is blazers.  They go with everything.  Dress 'em up or down.  Same goes for a good pair of jeans. They're wardrobe staples.

To me blazers and boyfriend jeans were just made for each other; they're just so effortlessly cool together (plus it's one of the easiest outfits to throw together!).

Trends I Love: Spring Booties

Say bye bye to snow boots and hello to spring booties!

Booties are my new favorite shoe trend.  I love them with boyfriend jeans for a casual vibe, or paired with a spring dress for a fun and flirty look!  Best of all, you can have them with heels, or flat, and typically they're more comfortable than a pair of high heels.
I love the desert color in particular (if you couldn't tell by my picks, lol) because they're so versatile and can be paired with pretty much any outfit.  They're a great neutral that can still add a lot of flair to whatever you're wearing.

What are your favorite spring booties?

Spring Blossoms

I'm so excited that I can finally start wearing skirts without freezing my butt off!  I've really started to take some fashion risks more now that I've started blogging.  A few weeks ago I was thrifting with my sister, and stumbled across a gold metallic top; I picked it right away because I was so drawn to it, but kind of thought that I would just wind up putting it back.  But as I thought about it I was thinking how this top was one of those pieces that was so quirky that it was actually cool.  So I bought it.  And now I love it.

Aviators | Old Navy in-store | similar here
Skirt | Choies Green Sakura midi | $16.90
Metallic Top | thrifted from Savers | similar here & here
Pointed Flats | Sam & Libby Heidi Two-piece flats | $30
Bag | Michael Kors Selma (large) | gift from Richie, get it here

I was a little skeptical about this Choies skirt because pretty much all of the models and bloggers who I've seen wearing clothes from this place are much slimmer than me.  I usually wear a size 12 or 14 in bottoms, depending on the brands, but I just couldn't pass up such a cute skirt for such a great price!  I ordered the large (which is what I usually order), and crossed my fingers.  And to my surprise, it fit fine!  The waistband stretches, so it fits comfortably and doesn't squeeze me at the waist (and therefore, no yucky muffin top).

Check out some behind-the-scenes-blogger-outtakes, because when I look back through all my pictures from a shoot these are my favorite because they're so hilarious!
And check out my Ariana Grande do!  I'm kind of digging the high, half-up half-down pony for spring.  ;)
*insert hair flip emoji here*

"Hey, what's going on up there?!"

Have you found a piece that you weren't too sure why you liked it, then after you bought it, wound up loving it?  :)
