Fresh & Festive

Lately the weather's been pretty great; pretty much all of last week was warm and filled with lots of sun.

And then today, the weather took a turn...again.  All this back and forth with the weather makes it such a pain in the butt to get dressed in the morning; even though it's May, it's still pretty chilly most days, but then later in the day it starts to warm up for a little, before cooling down again.  I've learned that the best way to combat this crazy weather is to just layer.

Overalls: GAP || Sweater: GAP, old (similar) ||
Jacket: H&M, no longer online (H&M has the best bold jackets, like this one & this one!)||
Headband: aerie || Sunnies: Wish app (similar) || Earrings: H&M ||
Sneakers: Puma ||  Crossbody: Banana Republic

I stood in front of my closet for a good five minutes before I came up with this outfit idea, and I was so happy it worked out once I put it on.  I've only really worn this H&M jacket (it's no longer available online, but I have seen a few in stores, on sale!) a few times (seen here!), but since it was pretty chilly, I was excited to get to wear it again before it gets warmer!

The combo of the festival-inspired jacket and these GAP overalls was a really fun and funky outfit!  I love the idea of white overalls because they're great for warmer weather; the white gives your outfit a fresh look and the overalls are great for cooler days.

This outfit was an unexpected surprise, because I put it together in a rush and I absolutely LOVED how different it was!; and I got a ton of compliments from people saying that they loved how fun and unique this look was!

How do you layer up on cold, spring days?  :)

Taking It Easy + Style Inspo: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Stuck on what to wear for the day (or night)?  My first go to is usual Pinterest (I also have a running list in my phone of outfit ideas that pop into my head!).  I go to one of my fashion boards (I got a few...lol || street style, celeb style, general fashion inspo, for your fancy-shmancy events), and scroll through quick to help me out in the morning.

As I've mentioned before, one of my favorite ways to find an outfit for the day, is to look towards stylish stars for a little inspiration.  It's a nice little accomplishment when you can recreate a celeb's look for a fraction of the cost!

I've recreated a few of my favorite celebs so far: Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Kourtney (here's a second one, cuz she's my favorite Kardashian lol) and Kim Kardashian; it's always a fun challenge!

And today I've channeled the beautiful Rosie Huntington-Whiteley!

I love Rosie's look for a lot of reasons:

1. It's super easy for anyone to recreate because it's completely made up of wardrobe basics: ripped jeans, a comfy striped tee, and a good spring jacket (as well as some cute accessories that can be styled with a ton of different outfits!).

2. It's casual and comfy, but not sloppy.

3.  I love ripped jeans and striped tees; and together, I'd wear them every day if I could!

Easy Peasy, 1,2,3!

Sometimes getting an outfit together in the morning is a big ol' pain; blank stares into your closet, wondering what the heck you're going to wear today.

I have a super simple solution.  Break it down; just like your would one of those unnecessarily long math word problems.  When you dissect an outfit piece by piece, I've found it's much easier to pull something together than when you're just thinking of the whole outfit.

Pick one piece that you love, and then go from there.  Today I chose a fun, vintage inspired jacket.

Step 1: Start with your basics.  When I'm styling a fun, detailed jacket, the rest of my outfit is composed of basic pieces so that the jacket is the crown jewel of my look.  Today I'm wearing this nice, light aerie button up top (perfect for the warmer weather, or in this case, layering), paired with a pair of classic black American Eagle jeggings (perfect for any clean, classic look!).

A statement piece is only as good as it's basic base.  At least to me anyways.  If you feel good in your base pieces (the fit, comfort, etc), then you'll have the confidence to rock the hell out of your statement, no matter how bold it is!  When you feel good, you'll look good (never underestimate the power of confidence!).

Plus, a good basic outfit can be style in a hundred different ways, depending on what other pieces you decide to add on; it's basically your blank canvas, to dress up any way you want!

Step 2: Add one or two fun elements...but don't get too crazy!  Again, you want the jacket to be the star of the show.  I added this recent purchase, a J. Crew suede clutch (goes with everything!), and a pop of color in the form of a vintage silk scarf (this one is great too!).

Step 3: Add that statement piece!!

...in this case an awesome jacket!

I found this awesome vintage inspired military jacket (similar here!) on Poshmark (use code PNXBH when you sign up to get a $10 credit!).

Not So Basic Tees + WIWW

Who doesn't love a good jeans and tee combo?  It's basically the cool girl uniform (just add leather jacket, lol); but, some days you just need a little extra oomf to your usual go-to...but not too much, just a nice, happy medium.  Essentially, the not-so-basic tee is your ticket to being dressed up, without having to get dressed up.

So what's a gal to do?

Personally, I've become a huge fan of pairing my jeans with simple tees that have a little something extra, enough to make my outfit interesting, but without the overkill.  A simple tee and jean combo can become so much more when your tee has some added detail: some ruffle at the hem (like my current fave from American Eagle; it comes in a few different colors, I got the cream and dark charcoal ones!), or maybe some monochromatic embroidery, even a little bit of embellishment around the collar!  On of my favorite details?  Stripes!  I cannot get enough!!

And sometimes just adding a cute accessory or an edgy leather jacket can make all the difference of turning your favorite plain white (or any color, like this grey one!) tee from 'ehhh' to 'OMG'!!

Some of my favorite places to score a great tee are American Eagle, Forever21 or J. Crew.

If I could splurge on a statement tee, it would definitely be this white tee with a giant black flower detail from Rosie Assoulin!  Sadly, I don't have $855 to drop on a shirt (*cue the tears* hahaha).

Next time you're in the market for a new tee to go with your favorite jeans, forgo the plain white tee, look for a little something more: a peplum waist, some nautical stripes, or a little bling around the collar!

How do you rock your not-so-basic tee?  :)

Spring Dusters + Jumpsuits

Sometimes spring is such a weird season, because winter's just ended, but it's not so warm like summer; you can't layer too much or you'll overheat, yet if you don't cover up enough you'll find yourself chilly.  The solution?  A lightweight jacket; make a statement, and keep yourself warm enough to ward off the cool weather, without overdoing it.

My favorite?  The duster, which I first saw on Kim K, and instantly fell in love (see for yourself in this roundup post + today's duster feat. in this post).  Duster jackets are so sleek and sophisticated, easily dressing up a simple piece-- like today's jumpsuit.

Duster: Forever21, old (similar) || Jumpsuit: aerie, old (similar) ||
Bralette: aerie || Booties: Lucky Brand, via Poshmark (similar) ||
Necklace: Forever21 || Sunnies: Wish app || Watch: c/o Fossil ||
Belt: Forever21 (similar) || Bag: J. Crew Factory

I'm loving the pastel-y, steely purple of this duster, it's a pretty pop of color that's not so overwhelming; it's the perfect color to transition into spring with!

Even though this look is like 80% black, it still has a very spring-y feel to it thanks to the details.  The bralette that I've layered with this jumpsuit has a pretty, flower lace; so even though it's all black, there's still a chic nod to spring present.

Add a sparkly statement necklace, with the same colors incorporated from the jacket give the outfit a nice break from the dominantly black color palette.

A black jumpsuit, like today's, is a must-have that can be worn all seasons.  It's a blank canvas on which you can accessorize and style in a zillion different ways; dressed up or down, it's all how you wear it that day!

Another reason why I love staple pieces like a duster jacket, or classic jumpsuit, is that, because you can style it so many different ways, it makes transitioning from season to season that much less stressful.  A few good, classic pieces can be taken from season to season, and have a few special accessories added on to make them seasonally appropriate-- instant chic!

Hanging Out

Let me start off by saying, HAPPY SAINT PADDY'S DAY!!  I'm sharing a subtle green OOTD with you guys today!

Fun fact: I'm half Irish...and half Puerto Rican...crazy combo right? hahaha

Location, location, location. You here it all the time, and when it comes to blogging it's so true...but there's always an exception to the rule, isn't there?  Sometimes it's not the location, but how you use your location!

When you're still a newbie blogger like me, you don't always have the luxury of numerous exciting locations to shoot at, so get creative with it!  Drive around town, try and look at certain locations close by at a different angle. You'd be surprised at how many new locations you'll wind up with!

Jumpsuit: aerie (similar) || Bralette: aerie || Fringe Cuff: Dynamite (similar) ||
Fringe Bracelet: Dynamite (similar) || Watch: c/o Fossil || Shoes: Poshmark* (similar, similar) ||
Bag: Marshalls (similar, love this white one for spring/summer!) || Sunnies: Old Navy (similar)

So where did I wind up shooting today?  The local playground!!

A boiler suit is the perfect one-piece go-to for spring!  ...and it's great for those days you have no clue what to wear; throw it one, grab your fave sneakers and finish off with a shiny statement necklace!   Easy peasy.  Plus this olive green is a subtle nod to the all green holiday, so you can get your Irish on in style, without worrying about looking like a leprechaun, hahaha.

As you can tell, it's super easy to move around in one of these, because clearly I had much too much fun hanging off of the spider web wall...hahaha!

Have you ever given a location a second chance and turned it into a great spot to shoot?  :)
